The challenge

As a state-owned power producer, PLN Nusantara Power (formerly PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali) had to comply with data-residency rules, yet wanted to modernise its applications with Google Kubernetes Engine. It needed a way to run modern container workloads without moving regulated data out of its own data centre.

What we did

  • Deployed an Anthos cluster on top of the client's VMware-based on-premises data centre
  • Ran the GKE cluster in hybrid mode, controllable both locally and from the Google Cloud console
  • Connected the on-premises cluster to Cloud SQL, Container Registry, Cloud Run, and Compute Engine
  • Ran on-site preparation, planning, installation, and enablement for the client's team

The results

  • Anthos for VMware running inside the on-premises data centre
  • Data residency maintained, with regulated data staying in-country
  • Compliance with regulations preserved while gaining modern Kubernetes tooling
